Frequently Asked Questions
How much heat reduction can I actually expect?
Most high-quality solar films from Surfexa can reject between 50% to 80% of total solar energy. This doesn’t just make the room more comfortable; it significantly reduces the load on your air conditioning, which can lead to lower energy bills over time.
Will solar film make my house too dark inside?
Not necessarily. Surfexa’s solar films come in various VLT (Visible Light Transmission) levels. You can choose a “spectrally selective” film that blocks heat and UV rays while remaining virtually clear, allowing you to keep your natural light and view.
Does the film provide privacy during the night?
This is a common misconception. Daytime privacy films (one-way mirror effect) rely on light balance—they work when it is brighter outside than inside. At night, when your interior lights are on, the effect reverses. For 24/7 privacy, frosted or decorative films are the better choice. Surfexa’s team will help advise.
Can solar film prevent my furniture from fading?
While no film can stop fading 100% (as it is also caused by heat and visible light), solar films block up to 99.9% of UV rays, which are the primary culprit. This significantly extends the life and color of your flooring, artwork, and upholstery. Surfexa’s team will help advise.
How is the film installed, and how long does it take?
For Surfexa, the process is “wet” and non-invasive. We clean the glass thoroughly, trim the film to fit, and use a specialized solution to squeegee it onto the pane. A standard residential installation (e.g., a living room and two bedrooms) typically takes about 3 to 5 hours.
Will the film bubble or peel off over time?
Bubbling is usually a sign of poor installation or low-grade adhesive. Professional-grade films like Surfexa use “dry” adhesive systems that bond chemically to the glass. When installed by Surfexa, the film should remain crystal clear and intact for 10 to 15 years or more.
Is it difficult to clean windows after they are tinted?
Once the film is fully cured (usually about 30 days), you can clean them as usual. However, you should avoid abrasive brushes and ammonia-based cleaners. A soft microfiber cloth and mild soapy water are all you need. Surfexa’s team will help advise.
Can solar film cause my windows to crack?
Certain “High Absorption” films aren’t suitable for specific types of glass (like double-paned or laminated glass) because they can cause thermal stress. This is why a professional pre-installation assessment is vital; we ensure the film type is safely matched to your specific glass type. Surfexa’s team will help advise.
Will the film affect my visibility looking out?
Most homeowners find that visibility is improved. By reducing glare from the sun, the film acts like a high-quality pair of sunglasses for your windows, making colors appear more vivid and reducing eye strain. Unless you choose a very dark or reflective tint, the film is designed to be optically clear so you can still enjoy your view. Surfexa’s team will help advise.
How can I remove the film in the future if needed?
Surfexa’s solar film is designed to be a long-term solution, but it is not permanent. If you ever decide to remove it, the film can be peeled away using a specialized professional steamer or a simple solution of water and ammonia.
Is the solar film safe for pets and children?
Surfexa solar film is completely non-toxic and odor-free once installed. In fact, it provides two major safety benefits for families which are skin & eye protection & shatter resistance as well.
